Always use a pre dive checklist, as it will take you through the necessary stages of assembling your equipment and making your pre-breath, without you having to rely on your memory. Although this means if you are disturbed during these checks, (you could go back to where you last was on the checklist), it is agreed amongst most experienced rebreather divers, that you should go back to the start of the checklist and start again.

Most manufactures and training agencies have developed pre/post dive checklists and if structured correctly and retained for future reference, a pre/post dive checklist automatically serves as a maintenance system, providing a way in which to log routine servicing, oxygen cell & battery replacement dates, cylinder inspection dates and any unusual technical events. This is also the prefect way to monitor possible future problems and keep track of potential technical problems, i.e a slower responding oxygen cell...
